As millions of people gear up for holiday travel, the federal government is shifting its messaging from the usual reminders about crowds and delays to passenger conduct.
In a recent Department of Transportation (DOT) announcement, Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy introduced a nationwide campaign called "The Golden Age of Travel Starts With You" meant to help curb disruptive behavior and violent outbursts in airports and on planes.
To accomplish that, Duffy is asking travelers to reconsider what they wear, to use basic manners, and to keep children calm while traveling. But for many travelers, the DOT’s strategy overlooks the real sources of frustration.
