BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Vermont welcomed its first female supreme court justice on this day in history.
The state’s first woman governor, Madeleine Kunin, appointed Denise Johnson to the court on December 3, 1990.
Johnson served until her retirement in 2011.
Since her appointment, four other women have been appointed to Vermont’s highest court.
