A man's body has been discovered following a devastating fire at a residential property in Royton, Greater Manchester. Emergency services responded to the incident on Marches Close, off Oldham Road, early this morning at approximately 5.35am.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the body was recovered at around 6am. A spokesperson for the police stated, "Officers responded to reports of a fire at a property off Oldham Road, Royton today (December 3, 2025) at around 6am. A body was discovered of a man who sadly died inside the property. Enquiries are ongoing at this time."
In response to the fire, multiple fire crews were deployed, including three fire engines from Oldham, Hollins, and Chadderton, as well as a turntable ladder from Manchester Central fire station. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service reported, "At 5.35am on Wednesday (December 3), firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. Crews remain in attendance alongside partners to make the scene safe."
The area has been cordoned off by police, and forensic officers are currently conducting investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The community is left in shock as authorities continue their inquiries into this tragic event.
