BOONE, N.C. — Police are continuing to patrol campus at Appalachian State University on Wednesday after an overnight threat was deemed a hoax.

The university first sent out an alert around 10 p.m. on Tuesday saying there was an investigation by New River Hall and Sanford Hall for an "unconfirmed threat."

About an hour later they shared an update saying police searched both buildings and confirmed there was no threat to students, and university officials called the report a "hoax."

Officers will remain on campus Wednesday out of an abundance of caution.
