Canon-McMillan won its second consecutive game to open the season Monday night when it came back from 14 points down in the first half to knock off reigning WPIAL Class 5A champion Peters Township.
Normally a modest two-game winning streak to start things off wouldn’t raise an eyebrow. But this is the first time this decade the Big Macs have gotten out to a 2-0 start.
It’s also the first time in a long time the team came into the season with high expectations.
“I think we’re a pretty good team,” Canon-McMillan coach John Fontana said. “It’s going to be tough to win any kind of championship. You’ve got to be lucky. You’ve got to stay healthy. But I think we’ve got a pretty good team.”
