One of the most controversial stadium builds in recent Australian history appears to have been given the green light.
A number of independent members of Tasmania's legislative council either indicated or confirmed their intentions to support the construction of a 23,000-seater stadium in Hobart.
The stadium, which is estimated to cost an eye-watering $1.13billion (£559m) and has been in the works since 2019, will also be roofed.
Although the intended purpose of the Macquarie Point venue is to house Tasmania's new AFL team, the Devils, the stadium is also expected to be used for cricket as well as other sports.
Given it will be roofed, it means the stadium could be the first indoor ground to host a Test match.
