That’s certainly the case for the PIAA Class 3A title at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cumberland Valley High School’s Chapman Field, which will feature a rematch between two-time WPIAL defending champion Avonworth (14-0) and District 11 champion Northwestern Lehigh (15-0).
Dating back to 2023, the Tigers are 46-1. Their only loss came to Belle Vernon that year in the state title. Since then, they’re winners of 31 straight games — and the Antelopes don’t have to be reminded of No. 16.
In last year’s state championship, Avonworth took Northwestern Lehigh to overtime but fell 36-33 after the Tigers scored a touchdown on their first play.
