FORESTVILLE, Md. — A dog was set on fire and killed in Prince George's County on Monday evening. County fire investigators and police are working together to learn what happened.

According to fire department spokesperson Mike Yourishin, firefighters received several around 6:30 p.m. 911 calls from people reporting they witnessed a man douse a dog in gasoline and set it on fire in the area of Pomfrey Drive at Cross Street in Forestville.

The dog reportedly ran into brush, setting the brush on fire, Yourishin said. Firefighters responded, found the dog and put out the brush fire. The dog did not survive and will undergo a necropsy, which should take approximately a week.
