Twelve-time Grammy-winning musician Rubén Blades is a hard man to get in touch with. He has no agent, relying solely on a long-time friend to manage an inbox that is always full of requests from all over the world. So, when the legendary Panamaniam musician agreed to write a song for David Baute’s animated feature “ Black Butterflies ,” the director could not believe his luck.

Speaking with Variety ahead of the film’s Dec. 5 release in the U.S., Blades says writing the original song “Imigrantes” for the film was a no-brainer given the subject of the moving drama.
