Guelph police are reminding residents once again not to share intimate images to strangers online after an attempted extortion.
Police said a man, in his 20s, contacted the service Tuesday, saying he met a woman on a dating app and began chatting via social media. During the chat, the man sent an intimate video of himself.
A short time later, the woman sent the man screenshots of his Facebook friends list and threatened to publish the video if he did not send “thousands” of dollars, police said.
When the man said he could only pay $800, he received a call from the Philippines demanding he send the money. The victim got scared, police said, and deleted all his social media accounts.
