A Syracuse University dean will step down from his role to serve as president of an Indiana university.

Vice President and Dean of Hendricks Chapel Rev. Brian E. Konkol will leave SU to lead Valparaiso University. He will begin as president on Jan. 1, 2026.

Konkol has been at SU since 2017 . He serves on Chancellor Kent Syverud’s executive team, the chancellor’s council, and the university leadership team.

“Rev. Konkol embodies the heart of Valpo through deep Lutheran roots, a passion for students, and a steady commitment to excellence,” said Robert D. Hansen, Chairman of the Valparaiso University Board of Directors.

Konkol’s strategic plan for Hendricks Chapel led it to become an important fixture on the SU campus and increased enrollment by over 933%, according to a press release.
