Marshall Faulk’s job as Southern coach was officially underway when he met the team about an hour after answering reporters’ questions.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame player turned 22nd football head coach of the Jaguars entered his first press conference on Monday, greeted with fanfare.

Southern football great Aeneas Williams, a fellow NFL Hall of Famer, spoke glowingly of Faulk, his former teammate. Southern basketball legend Avery Johnson, a former NBA player and coach, did the same. Baton Rouge Mayor Sid Edwards shook Faulk’s hand after he walked into the Leon R. Tarver II Cultural and Heritage Center to the horns and drums of the Human Jukebox and the cheers of the Jaguar faithful.
