SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - Sarasota Memorial Health Care System has completed more than 20,000 robotic-assisted surgeries using the da Vinci surgical system.
SMH participated in early clinical trials of robotic technology and became the first hospital in Florida to acquire Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci S robot after it became commercially available in 2006. Over the past two decades, the company has worked with SMH and other pioneering robotic surgeons to develop and expand the technology.
The Sarasota County Public Hospital Board purchased its first robotic system for $1.4 million, with support from the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation.
