HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - The Hartford City Council is considering an ordinance that would limit residents to owning no more than four dogs, citing concerns about unvaccinated animals and public safety.
The city’s animal control officer has reported seeing too many dogs that are not vaccinated, spayed or neutered. Some dogs have gotten loose and become aggressive, prompting the proposed legislation.
Gaurav Pathak, a Hartford resident who owns one dog, supports the limit.
“Having a single dog in a studio myself, I say it’s difficult to have a space for both of us. I don’t know how people manage to have 4 or 5 dogs in a place. That’s a good ordinance, I think,” Pathak said.
The proposal comes after incidents in nearby communities. In Watertown, police found 50 dogs and cats at one home.
