SCHENECTADY — Mélisande will be singing folk songs at the GE Theatre on Friday. Some of the songs date to the 16th century, but the 48-year-old native of Quebec, Canada, also has spent time in Boston hanging out with Robert Fripp from King Crimson and admits that her rock influences sneak into the music she’ll play in Schenectady.

Mélisande handles lead vocals and plays the jaw harp and mandolin. She’s played more than 375 concerts from North America and Europe to Australia and the UK, presenting a fresh take on traditional songs. She and husband Alexandre “Moulin” de Grosbois-Garand are core members of the group. He plays wooden flute and bass. Jean Desrochers is on acoustic guitar. Foot-stomping Gabriel Girouard is on fiddle and Éric Breton handles percussion.
