WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a proposal to return Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards for vehicles to previous levels, the administration's latest effort to roll back Biden-era policies.
The CAFE standards under the Biden Administration set fuel economy targets that aimed to encourage the use and creation of cleaner burning vehicles, including electric vehicles.
The administration celebrated the decision as a win for the American consumer, claiming that the move would save families $109 billion over the next five years.
"From day one I’ve been taking action to make buying a car more affordable.” Trump said during the announcement.
The decision was praised by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., who ciars the Senate's Environment and Public Works Commit
