LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The holiday season is the time of year to watch out for “porch pirates” who may steal your online orders.

Wednesday, Dec. 3, is National Package Protection Day. The awareness campaign highlights package theft, which spikes during the gift-giving season.

The Laredo Police Department is sharing tips to prevent package theft.

Police recommend several prevention tips: don’t leave packages outside for long periods, have packages delivered to an Amazon locker, keep delivery notifications on, or have someone pick them up for you.

“This is the reason why we promote ‘see something, say something,’ if you see something suspicious, if you see people going up to people’s houses and taking their packages or their parcels, we do want to know about it,” said Joe Baeza with LPD.
