Main Street is a corridor in Daytona Beach lined with bars, empty stores and plenty of asphalt. The road is typically busiest during Bike Week and Biketoberfest. When those events end, the area quickly quiets down.
But change could be coming. New renderings released by the city show a proposed redesign of the corridor. The plans include the possible widening of sidewalks, new landscaping, safer crosswalks and additional lighting.
Kevin Pelletier, a bartender at Bam Bam's, said the area needs businesses that stay open year-round.
"We are looking to put businesses in here at 365 days a year instead of the usual seasonal week and event-driven businesses that pop up and then go away," he said.
