Officials on Wednesday honored two Purdue University Fort Wayne golfers who rescued a 91-year-old man after he crashed into a pond in October.
AJ Agnew, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering, and Landon Smith, a sophomore business student, were on their way to Kroger on St. Joe Center Road when they saw the vehicle veer off the road and into a pond. The students acted quickly and pulled over the vehicle to pull the man, whom PFW identified Wednesday as Garet Crosby, from the pond.
Fort Wayne Fire Chief Eric Lahey presented coins and the Fire Chief Recognition Award to Agnew and Smith.
Lahey said the selfless service the students displayed that day are what the department instills in firefighters every day, according to information provided by PFW. Lahey and Mayor Sharon Tucker bot
