OREGON, USA — Oregon Senate Majority Leader Kayse Jama on Wednesday condemned President Donald Trump's remarks about Somali immigrants , calling the administration's policies driven by "racism and Islamophobia."
Jama's statement came hours after Trump told reporters he did not want Somali immigrants in the U.S., saying residents of the war-ravaged eastern African country are too reliant on the social safety net and contribute little to the U.S.
"They contribute nothing. I don't want them in our country," Trump said near the end of a Cabinet meeting Tuesday, according to the Associated Press . "Their country is no good for a reason. Your country stinks, and we don't want them in our country."
