Over four million households are set to get a special cost of living payment to help with heating bills this winter. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Cold Weather Payment will be issued between now and 31 March.

£25 payments are made in locations where residents experience continuous below-zero weather. Eligible households get £25 during each seven-day period of low temperatures until March 31.

Those who qualify will have the funds deposited directly into their bank accounts within 14 days of their postcode being triggered. The payments are automatic - with no application necessary, according to the DWP guidance.
