NEW YORK - Daniel Stern, the actor best known as Marv in the 1990 holiday classic “Home Alone,” said Tuesday that he has largely retreated from the Hollywood spotlight to live on a farm in Ventura County, California, where he and his wife tend citrus groves and cattle.

Stern, 68, said that he prefers the slow rhythm of rural life - calling himself “a bit of a homebody” - and that he often handles interviews by phone or video rather than traveling for public appearances, which is why he won’t attend Home Alone 35th-anniversary events in person.

The actor has also pursued work as a sculptor and artist; interests he says give him a different appreciation for the craft and for the work that goes into a film’s visual elements. Stern described trading the bustle of sets for morning chores
