A NEWSPAPER columnist has prompted anger and been branded a “dinosaur” after attacking Glaswegians over their English skills.
Alan Cochrane has faced backlash after he penned for the Daily Telegraph that he was not surprised when he read a headline which stated “Glasgow pupils are strangers to English,” as he claimed Glaswegians were “handicapped” when it comes to the English language by “their native tongue”.
He went on to add that it must be hard for “incomers” to learn English, as “if it's a big ask for locals, what chance do non-natives have?”
The Daily Telegraph columnist's words have been met with fury as one person responded to the story on social media, describing Cochrane as a “condescending Tory gobshite”.
