ANAS Sarwar has been urged to break his silence on whether he supports Rachel Reeves following calls for her resignation over claims that she misled the public about the state of the nation’s finances.

The Chancellor's position has been heavily scrutinised after she was accused of misleading the Cabinet by claiming there was a “big hole” in public finances, to help justify breaking Labour's manifesto pledge of not raising core taxes.

The Chancellor reportedly repeatedly highlighted a downgrade in productivity forecasts in a series of Cabinet meetings, despite knowing the gap was much smaller, leading ministers to believe they had no choice but to raise taxes in last week’s Budget.
