CANTON, Ohio — Firefighters in Canton responded to an overnight fire around 1:23 a.m. Thursday where flames broke out at a vacant high-rise apartment building in the 500 block of High Avenue SW.
“Upon arrival, crews observed smoke coming from windows on the 7th floor,” according to a press release from the Canton Fire Department. “Firefighters made entry and discovered significant charring on walls and ceilings, indicating that the fire had consumed most of the flammable contents prior to their arrival. The remaining fire load was light, and crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire.”
Firefighters then remained on the scene for several hours to extinguish hotspots and to ensure the building was safe.
"A thorough search of the premises confirmed that no trespassers were present,"
