WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) — As holiday decorations begin to brighten schools, offices, and government buildings across the state, the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office is issuing a seasonal reminder: live Christmas trees are illegal in all public buildings.

While officials stress they aren’t trying to dampen holiday spirit, they say the rule exists for one important reason — safety.

“We’re not the Grinch,” the Fire Marshal’s Office noted in its announcement. “We enjoy the season too. We just prefer celebrations that do not end with a fire engine parked out front.”
