IONIA COUNTY, MI -- After an educator was found dead in an Ionia Public Schools building, three campuses are closed Thursday, Dec. 4.

Ionia Public Schools Superintendent Ben Gurk, in an email to parents shared by police, said the educator was found dead late Thursday night.

Ionia Public Safety staff said they are investigating, but said there is no evidence to suggest any ongoing community threat.

Gurk did not disclose where the educator was found dead, but said Ionia High School, Welch High School and the Bulldogs Beginnings Preschool at Ionia High School would be closed Thursday.

In Gurk’s letter, he said it was with “deep sorrow that we share the heartbreaking news that a beloved Ionia Public Schools educator was found deceased at school late Thursday night.”
