Siena University head lacrosse coach Liam Gleason died on Wednesday, three days after he suffered a traumatic brain injury during an accident at home on Sunday, the school announced. He was 41.

“A sudden, senseless loss carries a kind of pain that defies understanding,” Siena President Chuck Seifert, Ph.D., said in a news release . “It’s hard to imagine anyone more universally loved and admired than Liam. Our community was blessed by Coach Gleason’s life.”

Gleason, an organ donor, was honored with a Hero Walk at Albany Medical Center on Wednesday, according to a GoFundMe launched on behalf of his family. The fundraiser has surpassed $585,000 of its $750,000 goal as of Thursday morning.
