BEREA, Ohio -- A Beeler Drive resident was defrauded of $1,650 through a scam on Facebook.
The resident reported Nov. 27 that she had corresponded with a woman on Facebook who said she sold dachshund puppies.
The resident agreed to buy a puppy from the woman.
The woman said she needed $1,000 to pay a shipping company that would deliver the puppy.
The resident sent the payment to the woman through Apple Pay, an electronic money-transfer service.
The woman then told the resident over the phone that she needed $650 for the dachshund breeder. The resident again used Apple Pay to send the money.
Afterward, the resident tried to contact the woman, but the woman had blocked her on Facebook and by phone.
Police checked the woman’s phone number and discovered that it belonged to a Kalamazoo,
