Sarnia’s accessibility awards “shine a light on something bigger than ramps and signs,” says Paralympian Kate Janoska.

“They celebrate belonging,” the shotputter and rower turned mindset coach said in her address to this year’s awards ceremony hosted by Sarnia’s accessibility advisory committee.

“Accessibility at its heart is about connection,” she said. “It’s about everyone being able to show up, to participate and feel included, without having to struggle just to be seen, heard or part of the experience.”

It’s “about creating spaces where everyone feels welcome, empowered and able to contribute,” Janoska said. “It’s about noticing the barriers, even the small quiet ones, and asking, ‘How can we do better?’ ”
