DEDHAM, Mass. (WCVB) - A church in Massachusetts is making a statement with its Nativity scene.
“Whatever is happening in each year, we try to highlight that and see how we can find peace in this,” Rev. Stephen Josoma said.
A sign is posted inside that reads “ICE was here,” and baby Jesus is noticeably missing from the manger, presumably taken by immigration agents.
Josoma said the objective is to highlight the “plight” of people in need.
“To help people recognize the plight of people who are really in dire need, and how we’re treating them,” Josoma said. “We’re supposed to bring out the best of people at Christmas.”
Josoma is the pastor, and it’s not the first time he’s used the manger in Dedham to start a conversation on current events.
