Thursday morning, walkers and cyclists came out to celebrate a new lighting system inside a 400-foot tunnel along the Hop River State Park trail within Bolton Notch State Park.
The project is part of Gov. Ned Lamont’s initiative to improve infrastructure at our state parks.

The new system aims to provide safety for visitors as they walk or ride along the curved tunnel that is straddled by rocks and watercourses.
Well-being on the trail has been top-of-mind for Sylvia Ounpuu. She is the co-chair of Bike Walk Bolton and secretary of Hop River Trail Alliance. Both advocacy groups have gotten feedback from the community that the area can be dangerous.
