A school resource officer at Williamson High School arrested a 16-year-old boy Thursday morning after he allegedly tried to bring a handgun into the Maysville community school.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement the school’s security checkpoint detected a .40 caliber pistol in the student’s backpack as he walked inside. Though the student ran, MCSO said the school resource officer (SRO) chased him into the parking lot, where he eventually caught the student.
