In her first public comments since the Trump administration launched immigration sweeps across the New Orleans area, Mayor LaToya Cantrell said her administration is working to make sure Hispanic and Latino residents feel safe.
Speaking at a press conference Thursday closing out the North American Mayors Summit Against Antisemitism, Cantrell fielded questions from reporters seeking comment on the launch Wednesday of Border Patrol and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in Louisiana.
"The city of New Orleans stands in solidarity with every resident within our community, and making sure that they know their rights... that they feel safe, and we’re going to continue to ensure that every step of the way," Cantrell said.
