The National Weather Service issued a snow squall warning at 11:02 a.m. on Thursday in effect until 11:30 a.m. for Cortland County.
"At 11:02 a.m., a dangerous snow squall was located along a line extending from De Ruyter to near McGraw to near Freeville, moving east at 40 mph," explains the weather service. "Dangerous and life-threatening travel conditions are expected to develop rapidly in the warning area."
Locations impacted by the warning include Cortland, Homer, Virgil, Solon, McGraw, Marathon, Taylor, South Cortland, East Freetown and Munsons Corners.
The weather service comments, "Reduce speed and turn on headlights! During snow squalls, the visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions."
