Firefighters extinguished a blaze Monday evening that damaged an unoccupied home near downtown Yuma.
According to the Yuma Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched shortly after 5 p.m. to the area of 6th Street and Cemetery Avenue following reports of a possible house fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters found flames coming from the roof of an empty residence.
“The structure looked like it used to be a home,” said YFD spokesperson Capt. Francisco Leon. “The structure was completely boarded up.”
He added that no nearby homes or structures were threatened by the fire.
Firefighters first fought the fire from outside the structure, quickly containing the flames before entering to extinguish hot spots and check for any occupants.
