A "triple dip polar vortex" is expected to bring frigid temperatures and snow flurries to several states this month , but Colorado is not among them, according to the National Weather Service.

The first of three "polar vortex systems" is expected to hit much of the central and eastern U.S. in the coming weeks, generating surges of arctic air, flurries and squalls in certain areas, according to reporting from USA TODAY . The systems are expected to sweep across the Great Lakes region and into the northern half of the Appalachians but will largely miss western states.
