Varieties of shredded cheese sold under various brand names and distributed to retailers in 31 states have been recalled because the bags may contain metal pieces. According to the Food and Drug Administration, Ohio-based Great Lakes Cheese Co. recalled more than 260,000 cases of cheese on Dec. 1 because of the contamination risk.

A recall was initially announced in October, but an FDA report released Monday shows the recall has been reclassified as a “Class II” risk. The FDA says a “Class II” risk may “cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” and carries the risk of serious injury.

The cheeses were sold at major retailers like Aldi, H-E-B, Publix, Target and Walmart, under various brand names. The cheeses were sold in:
