Max Verstappen is in with a chance of securing an incredible fifth consecutive Formula One drivers’ championship as the 2025 season reaches a thrilling finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Dutchman made a slow start to the season by his lofty standards and was left out of the title conversation almost entirely as McLaren pair Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri stormed out in front.

Five wins in the last eight races, though, have Verstappen firmly back in contention .

After a difficult weekend in Qatar where a strategy blunder saw him miss the chance to secure a first F1 title with a race to spare, championship leader Norris has seen his already fragile confidence knocked and his points advantage trimmed to a measly 12 .
