House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones is resigning her role as the head of the Maryland House of Delegates, just six weeks shy of the 2026 legislative session.
“ Acknowledging the changes in my life leaves me both pensive and hopeful,” Jones, D- Baltimore County , said in a statement Thursday afternoon. “Committed to the continued work of community for the people of this great State of Maryland, I am stepping back as Speaker of the House effective immediately.”
While Jones, 71, is relinquishing her leadership role, she will maintain her seat as a representative of Baltimore County’s 10th District during the 2025 legislative session.
