Contracting infections during later life may heighten the likelihood of heart attack, stroke and potentially dementia , Sir Chris Whitty has cautioned.
England's Chief Medical Officer has published a groundbreaking report urging the NHS to treat infections amongst older adults with greater gravity. He states that evidence indicates they face elevated risks of heart attack, stroke and conceivably dementia following severe infection.
Professor Whitty informed a media briefing that whilst antibiotics ought to be carefully managed amongst younger demographics - to prevent pathogens from building resistance - they should be administered more promptly to elderly patients.
