BERLIN, CT. (WFSB) - A Connecticut nonprofit’s holiday surprise for military troops overseas has turned into frustration after nearly 800 care packages were returned with no explanation.
Boxes to Boots shipped 1,100 boxes filled with food and personal care items to deployed troops in 13 countries on November 16th. About a week later, the organization received a call from the post office that most packages were being returned because they did not make it through customs in New York.
“I’m losing sleep over this. It’s not fair,” said Kristen Gauvin, President, Boxes to Boots.
The shipping problem has never occurred since the organization started in 2017. Gauvin said the packages will not reach troops in time for the holidays as intended.
