Trader Joe's "mystery packs" appear to have sold out, again.
Not long after the California-based grocery chain unveiled a new canvas Micro Tote, customers began to "unbox" another item, one that sells out annually, showing off the reusable shopping bags they were lucky enough to score with followers.
"Mystery packs" returned to Trader Joe's stores in mid-November and sold out quickly, at least according to those who couldn't get one in time.
In a statement to USA TODAY, Trader Joe's spokesperson Nakia Rohde confirmed shoppers' suspicions, saying the coveted "mystery packs" were sold in Trader Joe's stores in November but are "no longer widely available."
Here's what to know about the "mystery packs," including whether shoppers can still buy them in stores.
What are Trader Joe's 'mystery packs'?
Each "mystery pack" retails for $2.99 and contains three reusable shopping bags. Part of the fun is that customers don't know which three reusable bags they received until they open the "mystery packs."
"I feel like blind boxes and things like that are so popular right now. I was obsessed with Labubus for a second," Mariah Page said in a Nov. 15 "unboxing" video. "It's just something about the thrill of, like, not knowing what you're going to get. Do I need another reusable shopping bag? Absolutely not, cause I have 25 of them."
Unlike the bags sold in neighborhood stores, which are typically region-specific, the bags in the "mystery packs" are from different places around the country or are specialty bags specific to the "pack," according to Trader Joe's.
Can people still buy Trader Joe's 'mystery packs'?
According to Rohde, those who haven't gotten their hands on the "mystery packs" may be out of luck. But she didn't rule out the possibility that the popular item could still be available at some Trader Joe's locations.
"I'm not aware of any store that still has them in stock, but it is possible," Rohde said. "Our stores will not be receiving any more this year."
