IONIA COUNTY, MI – An Ionia high school will remain closed for another day after an educator was found dead in the building.
Welch High School, located at 250 E. Tuttle Road in Ionia, will be closed Friday, Dec. 5, Ionia Public Schools said in a Facebook post. All other schools in the district will be open Friday, with grief counselors available at Ionia High School for all students and staff.
Ionia Public Schools Superintendent Ben Gurk, in an email to parents shared by police, said the educator was found dead late Wednesday night. The educator has not been named by the school.
Gurk did not disclose where the educator was found dead. Welch High School, Ionia High School and the Bulldogs Beginnings Preschool at Ionia High School were closed on Thursday.
