Frigid temperatures and gusty northwest winds are sweeping across central Pennsylvania today, with temperatures expected to plummet to near-record lows by Friday morning. Single-digit readings are forecast for the Allegheny and Laurel mountain regions.

The arctic front pushing through the southeastern portion of the region this afternoon will bring wind gusts up to 30 mph through the remaining daylight hours before subsiding this evening.

Temperatures will drop dramatically overnight, with the coldest readings occurring around sunrise Friday. Northwestern mountain areas near Bradford may see some flurries this evening, but most areas will experience scattered cloud cover overnight.
