Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter has launched its Christmas appeal, which shares real-life animal stories. The campaign, named the 12 Strays of Christmas, aims to bring the community closer to the heart of the important work done at the shelter .

Running from December 1 to December 25, Christmas Day itself, the shelter's website and social media channels will offer an honest and heartfelt look at the reality of animal rescue. After reading each story, people will have the opportunity to make a donation, which can provide food, shelter, medical treatment and care for animals in need.
