ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

The city of Albuquerque unveiled its early plans for a road construction project for Unser Boulevard and Paseo Del Norte.

The project looks to widen both roadways to four lanes to reduce West Side traffic congestion. Construction will begin in January 2026.

Officials said the widening project will cost $62 million. Other additions being added with the project include: a new median, bike lanes with 3-foot buffers, 10-foot multi-use trails, new lighting, along with improved stormwater collection systems.

The first phase of the project will begin on Unser, going from Paradise Boulevard to just past Paseo, according to the city. Paseo will also be widened from Calle Nortena NW to beyond Unser.
