PHOENIX (AZFamily) — La Niña, the cooling of surface temperatures in the Pacific off the coast of Peru, is finally showing up in the Arizona weather pattern.
La Niña is responsible for the dry weather, a forecast that’s expected to continue through next weekend. In the meantime, a ridge of high pressure is building off the coast of California. The ridge will strengthen but will not move much under late next week.
Still, Arizona’s proximity to that high will allow temperatures to increase starting Sunday through Friday of next week. By next Friday, we could see highs of 80 degrees around metro Phoenix.
Friday, we’ll see highs in the 60s, and that will hold for Saturday as well. However, the warming starts on Sunday with a forecast of 73. By next Friday, we could see a high of around 80.
