DES MOINES, Iowa —

Schools teach children, but on Friday, the educators of Moravia Community School District got an important lesson.

The focus: learning the red flags of child abuse or torture that could be happening at home, the questions to ask children who show signs, and what agencies to report to.

The in-depth look came out from a group of volunteers: Polk Assistant County Attorney Meggan Guns, Nikki Romer of the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children, and child advocate Jennifer Sleiter of STAR Center-Blank Children's Hospital.
