A bus driver has been left with 'serious injuries' after being struck by part of a load from a heavy goods vehicle near Inverness Airport. ‌

The incident occurred around 9.30pm on Friday (December 5) when a red DAF HGV collided with the bus on the A96 near Tornagrain. ‌

The lorry initially failed to stop at the scene but the vehicle was traced by police a short time later. Officers say they are making enquries to trace the driver of the HGV. ‌

The 56-year-old female driver of the bus was taken to hospital where her injuries are described as "serious". No other passengers or road users were injured in the crash.

The road was closed for around five and a half hours into the early hours of this morning while officers carried out investigations. It reope
